Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC are again supporting Trigg Island SLSC during three of the Abalone fishing sessions over the season and need as many hands as possible to help out!. With a range of skills required to help us deliver this patrol service, we'd love to hear from you if you're interested in getting involved!
The WA metro Abalone fishing session is a unique activity that sees an extremely large volume of people enter the water with widely varying swimming capacity. This creates a challenging situation for lifesavers to manage and stretches staffing to its limits. These patrols are a great way to get a larger picture of Surf Lifesaving, learn some new skills and possibly meet members from other clubs. Each Abalone session requires at least 140 Lifesavers, 10 IRBs, 15 RWCs and 2 Drones operating across 11km of metropolitan coast.
Aquatic and non-aquatic roles available (Bronze medallion Water safety, Observers, and Volunteers to collect survey responses off fishers to aid in behaviour change). The Club will receive financial disbursement from SLSWA for every member who assists. There may be an opportunity for Advanced lifesaving skills (submerged Recovery and Rock Entry) training for members taking part.
