About the Event

The Surf Craft Challenge is a WA Day long weekend tradition that attracts surf lifesaving clubs, paddling communities, and ocean enthusiasts from across the State. Starting at the Albany Boat Shed and finishing at Middleton Beach, the event showcases the spirit of surf craft racing and Albany’s unique coastal culture. With surf boats, skis and boards all taking part, it’s an inclusive, high-energy race that brings together competitors, volunteers, and the community for a weekend of sport, celebration, and connection.

Spectator & Community Info

The Surf Craft Challenge is one of the most exciting spectator events on the Albany calendar, with multiple vantage points along the course. Watch the start from the Albany Boatshed, follow the action along the Ellen Cove Boardwalk, or enjoy the finish line atmosphere at Middleton Beach. Coffee will be available near the Boatshed, and the Albany SLSC Club Kiosk will be open all morning, serving coffee, cold drinks, and snacks for spectators and competitors alike. After the racing concludes, presentations will take place at Albany SLSC, followed by an after party to celebrate the event and the WA Day long weekend in true community style.
