About the event

SNSLSC Constitution Review Workshop Sunday 12 October 2025 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the Rampant Swan Bar.

The Management Committee is seeking feedback on proposed changes to the Club Constitution and invites Members to attend a workshop on Sunday 12 October 2025.

Swanny’s membership has grown considerably over recent years and the Constitution needs to adapt to and reflect this change.

It should be fit for purpose, workable and aligned to SLSA and/or SLSWA policies where relevant.

As the Club’s guiding governance document, the Constitution should also support the Club to reduce risk and operate effectively.

A draft document has been prepared based on the template produced by SLSWA for club use, which is aligned with the modern governance principles under the Sports Governance Standards. This keeps the items that make Swanny unique, such as our objects, emblem and competition colours.

How to provide feedback

  1. The draft Constitution is linked. Please take a moment to read through and consider your comments and queries.

  2. Use the linked presentation to understand the possible options for structure of the Management Committee (and pros and cons of each).

  3. Attend the Member Workshop and share your feedback. If you are unable to attend, you can provide your feedback via email.

Member Workshop

Sunday 12 October 2025, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the Rampant Swan Bar.

Members are welcome to provide feedback on the entire document via email, but the workshop will focus on the following specific areas where your opinions will be most valued:

  • Structure of the Management Committee and fiduciary duties of managers/directors

  • Process for election of Management Committee members and possible rotation of terms

  • Life Membership Committee

  • Proxy voting

  • Disciplinary and grievance procedures

  • Distribution of proceeds upon dissolution of Club

  • Inclusion of Club colours

All members are invited to participate in the workshop, and provide feedback on the points above.

Detail of the Constitution will not be addressed at this workshop; there will be an opportunity to provide this feedback to the Working Group by email.

Next steps

After this workshop, the Working Group will consider all Members’ feedback and ask the Management Committee to review and approve the proposed new Constitution.

Once approved by the Management Committee, the Constitution will need to be approved at a Special General Meeting (SGM), which is tentatively planned for early December.

For the new Constitution to be endorsed by special resolution, 75% of voting Members present at the SGM need to approve it.
