About the event

The 2nd Annual Margaret River Proficiency Weekend 14 to 17 November 2024

The Margaret River Proficiency weekend returns for its second year. This time Education have teamed up with the Swanny Dukes for an extra epic long weekend of classic Swanny action.

Swanny has been fortunate enough to book the SLSWA South West Development Centre in Margaret River for a cheeky long weekend from 14 to 17 November 2024 (Thursday night through to Sunday) this year.

The SLSWA South West Development Centre is a fully contained function centre with 74 beds in dormitory style accommodation, storage for lifesaving craft and equipment and with social and training areas.

It is a fantastic opportunity to get out of Perth, get your Proficiency done in an exciting different location, spend some social time with other Swanny members, do some sight-seeing, surfing, and wine-tasting in the beautiful Margaret River region –all at a very low cost!

You can come down any time from Thursday to Sunday and partake in any of the social and other activities. The Proficiency session is scheduled for Saturday morning but may be moved to Sunday if conditions require.

This is an all Club family friendly event!

What: Proficiency Weekend at Margaret River

When: Thursday 14 November to Sunday 17 November

Where: SLSWA South West Development Centre, Margaret River

Cost: Full experience $100.00 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights)

Friday and Saturday nights only $75.00

Cost includes 2 or 3 nights dormitory style accommodation and Saturday night BBQ dinner.

Family Rooms: There are a limited number of 3 and 4 bed rooms available for families with young children at an additional cost (please book and pay the above rates per adult and the Proficiency Officer will be in contact to discuss additional costs once we work out room allocation – additional costs will be similar to the per person costs above depending on if you need a 3 or 4 bed room and availability).

Non-members: partners (over 18) and siblings/children (under 18) are welcome!

Under 18 Members: Must be accompanied by a legal guardian for the weekend.

Working With Children Checks: All guests 18+ (Members and non-member partners) must have a valid WWCC for the duration of the weekend.

Food, drink, entertainment and other activities are not included. You need to cover the costs of your own breakfasts and other meals (excluding the Saturday night BBQ dinner), BBQs and snacks for the weekend.

Numbers will be limited to 74 at the facility itself, although Proficiency places are available for anyone who can get their own accommodation in Margaret River for the weekend.

Alternative accommodation options: Members are welcome to arrange their own accommodation in the region and join in which ever activities the like. Please bring a contribution to the Saturday night BBQ dinner if attending.

Alternatively, two of our fabulous Country Members, Beth and James, have a farm in Carbanup, about 30 km from Margaret River and have generously offered their place for free camping for Swanny Members for the weekend. They are well set up to take lots of Swanny happy campers. If you haven’t meet them before, Beth and James are totally lovely and you would be made very welcome at their place. Beth just apologises in advance for their roosters – you will not be sleeping in if you stay there!
