
Skills Maintenance - IRB Driver and Crew
Service Description
IRB Skills Maintenance There have been a few important changes to IRBs introduced this Season and the IRB Training Team are now ready to roll out Skills Maintenance to Swanny for Season 2025-26. Please email taf@swannysurfclub.org.au for the 11 October 2025 session at North Cottesloe only or for the Swanny sessions sign up through SLS Hub Training Events calendar. Swanny Skills Maintenance sessions are accessible via the SLS Hub → Applications → eLearning → Training Event → choose your date → Enrol. Sessions: • Saturday 11 October 9:00 - 12:00 noon - North Cottesloe - 8:00 - 9:00 am for TAFs, upskilling with Garry Williams. From 9:00 - 12:00 noon it is open for all IRBC/IRBD/RWC, BYO IRB. This would be a great opportunity to learn from Garry, who was integral in the IRB re-write nationally over the last few years. • Sunday 12 October 8:00 am - 9:00 am - Mullaloo for TAFs, 9:00 am - 12:00 noon IRBC/IRBD • Sunday 9 November 7:00 am - 9:00 am - Swanbourne • Sunday 30 November 7:00 am - 9:00 am - Swanbourne • Saturday 13 December 7:00 am - 9:00 am - Swanbourne (Set-up IRBs from 6:45 am, on the beach for 7:00 am. Includes a brief interlude for water safety for SRC/Bronze Medallion Run-Swim-Rescue at 8:00 to 8:20 am.) It is highly recommended to read the most up-to-date IRB course eLearning. IRB Crew Certificate (IRBC) IRB Crew must demonstrate: • Proficiency in the pre-requisite awards: ◦ Proficient Bronze Medallion. IRB Crew must demonstrate the following skills: • Parallel running • Figures of eight • Conscious/assisted patient pick-up • Unconscious/unassisted patient pick-up • Rise crewing position • Standing crewing position • Locked-in position • Emergency punch position • Re-boarding the IRB Silver Medallion IRB Driver (SM IRBD) Skills Maintenance for the Silver Medallion IRB Driver award can only be delivered by an IRB assessor. Drivers must also complete the IRB Crew Skills Maintenance and have it recorded on Surfguard/App. IRB Drivers must demonstrate: • Proficiency in the pre-requisite awards: ◦ Proficient Bronze Medallion ◦ Proficient IRB Crew • Hold a Recreational Skippers Ticket. • Pre and post operations checks. Demonstrate the ability to apply safe driving practice including but not limited to: • Parallel running • Figures of eight • Response to signals • 1 o'clock wave negotiation angle • 2 o'clock patient pick-up angle • Conscious/assisted patient pick-up • Unconscious/unassisted patient pick-up • Re-boarding the IRB.
