Congratulations to Jordi Broomhall who was named as Young Volunteer of the Year at the 2025 SLSWA Awards of Excellence on Saturday 14 June 2025.

Young Volunteer of the Year
Awarded to: Jordana Broomhall (Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC)
Jordana exemplifies the spirit of Surf Life Saving through her extraordinary leadership, dedication, and service.
As development manager, trainer, assessor, and Patrol Captain, the 22-year-old has delivered outstanding contributions across club development, youth engagement, and education.
Her initiatives, including the Swanny Youth Camp, Nipper Sleepover, and Pink Patrol, have significantly strengthened member pathways and inclusion.
She inspires confidence and growth in members of all ages, fostering a welcoming and connected community.
Jordi will travel to Sydney as the SLSWA nominee for the SLSA National Awards of Excellence.

Clubs ride a wave of surf lifesaving talent

Western suburb surf lifesavers starred at the recent awards night to recognise the best of WA’s hardworking and dedicated surf lifesaving volunteers.
North Cottesloe, Swanbourne Nedlands, and Cottesloe SLSC volunteers were chosen as winners in their category against entries from across WA and presented with their awards by WA Governor Chris Dawson.
North Cottesloe SLSC won two categories: Kate Carbone was named Age Manager of the Year for her dedication to the club’s U13s, and North Cottesloe Sea Lions Program coordinator Tilly Morfesse accepted the prize for Community Education Program of the Year.
Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC’s Jordana Broomhall was named Young Volunteer of the Year.
The Surf Sports Team of the Year award went to Cottesloe SLSC’s Open Female 2x1km Beach Run team of Isabella Neervoort and Sienna Hanikeri.
Kate Carbone’s citation stated that her dedication to the U13 age group at North Cottesloe SLSC was outstanding.
“As an age group manager, coach, junior committee member and fundraising coordinator, Kate has played a pivotal role in planning and delivering a successful Nipper season,” it read.
Tilly Morfesse’s citation noted that the Sea Lions program had created an engaged and inclusive community in surf lifesaving for teens with disabilities.
The program had soared to new heights this season, teaching participants the ins and outs of surf boats, inflatable rescue boats and jet skis, as well as ocean swimming and board paddling.
Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC’s Jordana Broomhall, 22, had shown extraordinary leadership, dedication, and service as the club’s development manager, trainer, assessor, and patrol
captain.
Jordana had made outstanding contributions across club development, youth engagement, and education with initiatives such as the Swanny Youth Camp, Nipper Sleepover, and Pink Patrol.
“She inspires confidence and growth in members of all ages, fostering a welcoming and connected community,” her citation read.
The winning Surf Sports Team of the Year was Cottesloe SLSC’s Sienna Hanikeri and Isabella Neervoort who won the Open Female 2x1km beach run relay at the 2025 Australian Surf
Life Saving Championships.
The pair medalled in their respective individual events before competing as the team that went on to take the Australian title.
