Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) congratulates the 24 participants of the 2025 National Leaders’ Masterclass.
Held at the University of South Australia in Adelaide from 23 – 27 July, the Masterclass brought together leaders from across the Surf Life Saving movement, empowering them to grow personally and professionally and take their leadership to the next level.
President of SLSA, John Baker AM ESM, said the National Leaders’ Masterclass is extremely important to the organisation, giving our experienced leaders the opportunity to sharpen their skills around strategic planning, business management, and innovation. He also stressed the importance of the Masterclass to develop emotional intelligence to help with managing volunteers and leading in a complex organisation.
The intensive annual program is designed for members aged 30+ years who currently hold a leadership role in SLS. It inspires, challenges, and equips individuals with the skills, concepts, and tools to lead with confidence and drive meaningful change.
This year’s participants came from a variety of clubs, roles, and Surf Life Saving backgrounds. They included representation from every Australian state and one successful applicant from New Zealand.
Logan Ovenden-Clarke from Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC, also noted that the Masterclass has given him invaluable learning to take back to his club and implement in his personal life.
One key area he highlighted was the strategies learnt during the Masterclass will be invaluable when developing his club’s upcoming Strategic Plan.
“Meeting twenty-three people from other lifesaving clubs who are in similar positions, gives you a really good understanding of where your club sits and what you can improve on,” he said.
