To be held in January, our 1-day Nipper (U13) and 2-day Youth (U14 & U15) Lifeguard Programs are the perfect opportunity for budding lifesavers and lifeguards to immerse themselves in surf life saving fun!
With a bunch of activities, including advanced surf and ocean skills training, getting up close to surf lifesaving power craft, a visit from the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Heli crew, and learning more about first aid and how to respond in an emergency, this is a fantastic summer holiday activity!
Nipper Lifeguard Program
Got an U13 Nipper who just can’t get enough of surf life saving? Or maybe they’re a lifeguard in waiting?
Join us for an action-packed day of holiday activities at the Nipper Lifeguard Program – enrol NOW!
Get into the water with surf and ocean skills training, hear from a visiting Lifeguard, get up close to surf lifesaving power craft, including Jet Skis and Inflatable Rescue Boats, and learn more about first aid and how to respond in an emergency.

WHAT’S INCLUDED: All activities, plus every Nipper will take home a very cool Lifeguard Academy cap!
The Nipper Lifeguard Program aims to:
Provide a fun and engaging insight into SLSWA’s Lifesaving Services, with attendees participating in a range of activities while developing skills and knowledge applicable to working in the industry.
Provide U13 Nipper members information regarding how to become a paid Lifeguard
Gain an understanding of the daily tasks and responsibilities of a Lifeguard
Provide opportunities to meet other nipper members who share the same passion for beach safety and aquatic rescue
Develop basic lifesaving skills to respond to critical incidents
Offer initial information and pathways to employment opportunities with SLSWA
Participation in the Nipper Lifeguard Program:
The Program provides a fun one day program for Nippers to develop and learn skills as well as gain exposure to key SLSWA operational areas including;
Surf and Ocean skills including surf awareness
Powercraft operations
Basic First aid and resuscitation
Surf rescue skills and use of a rescue board
Participant pre-requisites:
To be eligible to enrol in the Lifeguard Academy’s Nipper Lifeguard Program, participants must:
Be a financial member of an SLSWA Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC)
Must be in the U13 years Nipper Age Category by 1 October 2025
Have completed and achieved the Under 13 Preliminary Requirements for nipper participation
Youth Lifeguard Program
