A new improved and updated Swanny Website went live on Monday 9 September 2024.
The new version of the Swanny Website was developed using the Wix platform. Wix.com provides cloud-based web development services. It offers tools for creating HTML5 websites and mobile sites using online drag-and-drop editing. Users can add applications for social media, e-commerce, online marketing, contact forms, e-mail marketing and community forums to their websites. The Wix website builder offers a complete solution from enterprise-grade infrastructure and business features to advanced SEO and marketing tools, enabling anyone to create and grow online.
The upgrade of the Swanny Website into the Wix platform was managed by Jess Li of Wildflower Digital.
Wildflower Digital is a nano-agency founded in 2021 by Jess Li. Jess operates from her home office in Perth, Western Australia (which she shares with her two cats, husband and daughter). Jess specialises in designing, building and maintaining websites in WordPress, but also has experience with other platforms and website builders including Wix.com.
The decision to upgrade the Swanny Website and oversight of the process was managed by Marketing Manager Ben Leonard with input from the Management Committee. The Swanny Ocean Classic website will also be improved and updated.

Joomla! is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) for publishing web content.
At this time the swannysurfclub.org.au domain name was organised. In June 2003 Stewie Alcorn as Club Captain proposed registering a domain name for the Club and the Management Committee chose SNSLSC.com. In September 2006 the issue was revisited by then President Timothy Tucak who advised the Webmaster James Anderson the following:
"So the Management Committee chose SNSLSC.com (referring to the June 2003 decision)
Looking at my survey of domain names, very few use this format.
Most are clubnameslsc or clubnamesurfclub.
But swanbournenedlandsslsc or swanbournenedlandssurfclub are both quite long.
Then it would come back to swannyslsc or swannysurfclub
So you were probably right when you suggested swannysurfclub.org.au (.org.au is also cheaper than .com or .com.au!)
It also has the benefit of being similar to our current domain name, which might make migration easier.
I agree that probably best to go direct to Melbourne IT to get this set up.
So please organise the domain name ($88) and burst account ($20) have provide receipts to Tam (Club Administrator) for reimbursement.
We should aim to launch the new site at the start of the season - 1st October."
At the end of October 2006, James Anderson as Webmaster (unofficially as Chief Technologist) emailed Club Members to announce the new Swanny Website along with new email addresses for the Management Committee. The domain name and email addresses remain in use to this day!

Subject: SNSLSC: Register for the new website to win fame and glory
Hello Swanny members,
There is a new Swanny Website - it is a bucket load (or two) better than the previous website.
You should visit it for the following reasons
1. Regularly updated by the management committee - the latest on training, patrols, social events, education courses plus more is fed into the new system. Stories are added every week.
2. Interactive: you can now share your little bit of swanny. The photo album, forum and weblinks sections are open to all members (once you register online).
3. Fancy and useful: With the calendar showing what's coming up plus the weather and surfcam (when someone resets it) providing live feeds it is a good place to visit every now and then
4. Newsletters: the eNews newsletters will be derived from the website soon, so make sure you register on the website to receive so you can be added to the list. The new format should bring an easier to read newsletter with more function.
5. Members only access: Confidential members-only information such as patrol lists (with phone numbers), boatshed door codes, photogalleries, forums and other news is restricted to club members, who have registered on the website (which is dead easy to do - see below).
6. Prizes and Glory: there is a competition running on the photo gallery now for the best Swanny-related picture uploaded. The prize will be a carton of free beer at Friday night drinks. (For you younger members, we'll arrange a carton of something sweet and fizzy).
The photo (or movie) will be judged based on
- Swanny SLSC content
- How amusing it is
- Quality of the photo
